Description
I saw this curious mechanism in a photo published in the July 2026 issue of Canadian MeccanoNotes . It's one of the small mechanisms built and displayed by Hubert Hogle at the Platelayers Society exhibition. I don't know who originally designed it.
It uses four sliding strips that aren't standard Meccano parts. I designed the same mechanism with VirtualMec using 2 1/2" perforated narrow strips #B698, and built one to ensure it worked properly.
Since I didn't have enough of these strips, I designed them with Fusion 360 and 3D printed them with black PLA filament.
The mechanism's operation, while simple, is surprising
